Have you ever wondered why there
has been such extreme hatred towards the Jewish people
through evil men like Adolf Hitler, Saddam Hussein, Osama Bin-Laden just recently
and
countless others throughout history? And why has there been so much focus on
Israel,
Jerusalem, and all of Jesus' homeland? Perhaps Satan knows that the Jewish people
are God's
chosen people and he tries his hardest to destroy them. Jesus makes
it clear throughout the
Bible that Satan is real and his demons are real and they are fighting to win
souls.
And the great dragon was thrown
down, that ancient serpent, who is called the Devil and
Satan, the deceiver of the whole world--he
was thrown down to the earth, and his angels
were thrown down with him. And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, "Now
the
salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his
Christ have
come, for the accuser of our brethren has been thrown down, who accuses them
day and
night before our God. And they have conquered him by the blood of the
Lamb and by the
word of their testimony, for they loved not their lives even unto death. Rejoice
then, O
heaven and you that dwell therein! But woe to you, O earth and sea, for the
devil has come
down to you in great wrath, because he knows that his time is short! Revelation 12:9-12
Be sober, be watchful. Your adversary
the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking
some one to devour. 1 Peter 5:8
The thief comes only to steal
and kill and destroy.
John 10:10
Jesus answered them, Truly, truly,
I say to you, every one who commits sin is a slave to sin.
John 8:34
And when he came to the other
side, to the country of the Gadarenes, two demoniacs met
him, coming out of the tombs, so fierce that no one could pass that way. And
behold, they
cried out, "What have you to do with us, O Son of God? Have you come here to
torment us
before the time?" Now a herd of many swine was feeding at some distance from
them. And
the demons begged him, "If you cast us out, send us away into the herd of swine."
And he
said to them, "Go." So they came out and went into the swine; and behold, the
whole herd
rushed down the steep bank into the sea, and perished in the waters.
Matthew 8:28-32
For the mystery of lawlessness
is already at work; only he who now restrains it will do so
until he is out of the way. 2 Thessalonians 2:7
The most interesting part of
the preceding passages is that we truly do not see exactly who or
what we are fighting. The Bible illustrates that the demons actually speak
to Jesus. Many
people try to say that there is some evil generic force or that a demon is just
another way to
refer to a personal challenge. But Jesus clearly shows in the Bible that
demons are real and
they have wills, intellects, and emotions.
Jesus literally walked on water, healed others, changed water to wine, ascended
to Heaven,
rose from the dead, read minds, foretold the future, withered a tree, calmed
a storm and much
more in front of countless witnesses. When he claims that Hell is real and Satan
is trying to
destroy us, we would be foolish not to heed His advice.
Put on the whole armor of God,
that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the
devil. For we are not contending against flesh and blood, but against the principalities,
against the powers, against the world rulers of this present darkness, against
the spiritual
hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:11
Stand therefore, having girded
your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of
righteousness, and having shod your feet with the equipment of the gospel of
peace;
besides all these, taking the shield of faith, with which you can quench all
the flaming
darts of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword
of the Spirit, which is
the word of God. Ephesians 6:14-17
At the precise time that we decide
to rebel against God and sin, Satan has access to us. The
"mystery" of lawlessness already at work is precisely that. Demonic influence
or possession
explains much of what the smartest doctors, psychiatrists, psychologists, professors,
and
others can't and Jesus told us 2,000 years ago what the problem was--Sin! Those
who turn to
the world for answers only find temporary relief from depression, drug abuse,
eating
disorders, "mental" illness, or any other problem because they are diagnosed
for their
symptoms and not the root cause of the problem.
